Benefits of Serving
Driving Your Growth
Whether your ultimate goal is to become an educator or to simply learn valuable skills that will enhance your professional profile, the GO Fellowship experience will sharpen many of your abilities, including:
- Delivering Instruction
- Critical Thinking
- Public Speaking
- Problem Solving
- Professionalism
No matter which GO partner school you are placed with, you will have access to school administrators and educators who can provide knowledge and guidance about teaching in low-income communities and help you gain confidence as a young professional. This experience will help you strengthen your leadership skills and will set you up for success in your future career.
Enriching Your Experience
A year of teaching in low-income communities can be an intense experience, but in addition to impacting the lives of your students, one of the most rewarding aspects of the job is the relationships you form along the way. As a GO Fellow, you’ll benefit greatly from being connected to the community of your peers. Whether it is through your housing, at your school, or at networking events, you’ll develop camaraderie with other Fellows that provides support as you navigate the challenges of your service year together. You may even make some lifelong friends!
Broadening Your Impact
As part of our effort to build a diverse workforce of teachers who are equipped for culturally responsive teaching and committed to the development of their practice, we offer GO Fellows the opportunity to continue the path to classroom teaching through an embedded teaching apprenticeship as part of your year of service.
The GO Teacher Residency can help you receive both your teaching certification and your Master of Art in Teaching through our graduate school partnerships.
